Zagreb explosions



Series of explosions which rocked the Croatian capital Zagreb last night occured near the bus stop in Stenjevec, a suburb west of the city, injuring one person. Since tonight police has closed several city parts to traffic and is currently investigating who is behind the explosions.Two days ago, an explosive device was set off by a freight train several hundred metres from the bus station, causing damage but no injuries. The latest explosions in Zagreb have caused consternations among the citizens of Zagreb, but also among the citizens all over the country, who are afraid for their personal safety.

Earlier today police has been anonymously informed that «a suspicious object» could be found at the Zagreb public garage in Tuskanac. Police reacted immediately blocking that part of the city and all the traffic in the vicinity of the garage. Members of the anti-explosive police division came to to the spot, but determined that the report was false and that no explosive device could be found in the garage.

Although there have been many speculations in some media in Croatia and the regionan that last night's explosions in Zagreb have been an act of terrorism Zagreb chief of police Goran Burusic has stated today that he excludes terrorism as a motive behind the latest explosions in Zagreb. After the police in Zagreb arrested a 53-year-old man on suspicion of being responsible for the explosions on the bus stop in Stenjevec in Zagreb on January 11th, police in Split arrested a person calling himself commander Samil who put his video message on youtube in which he took the responsibility for the explosions in Zagreb and calling for new ones. Police identified him as a citizen of Trogir and arrested him for the criminal act of public encouraging of terrorism. In the following clip from youtube you can see his video message:
